On May 8, 2017 Savemedcoasts Project has been presented to the majors of the municipalities of Paros and Antiparos islands, Greece.
In the frame of the Geoswim project, that was held in Paros between 4 and 16 May, 2017 under the umbrella of the University of Trieste and the Municipality of Paros, was organized a meeting with the majors of Paros and Antiparos islands. The goal was to promote the Savemedcoasts project and its activities in the Mediterranean region.
Paros and Antiparos belong to the Cycladic islands, in the Aegean Sea. This region is undergoing to diffuse subsidence and sea level rise that is causing beach retreat and severe erosion in the archipelago. To better understand these effects in Paros in May 9-12 have been carried out three small scale coastal aerial photogrammetric surveys in the harbor area and for a sinkhole zone. The goal is to prepare the local stakeholders to sea level rise scenarios for the next decades for Civil Protection applications.
We are thankful to the Municipality of Paros and Antiparos for their enthusiastic support.
